IMPACTS OF CYBER BULLYING ON VICTIMS

Cell phones and computers themselves are not to blame for cyber bullying. Social media sites can be used for positive activities, like connecting kids with friends and family, helping students with school, and for entertainment. But these tools can also be used to hurt other people.

Whether done in person or through technology, the effects of bullying are similar.
Kids who are cyber bullied are more likely to:
  • Use alcohol and drugs
  • Skip school
  • Experience in-person bullying
  • Be unwilling to attend school
  • Receive poor grades
  • Have lower self-esteem
  • Have more health problems
Just as cyber bullying can have an extreme negative impact on kids/students, it can be very harmful to teachers, other members of the school workforce and working people.

  • Undermining your confidence, self-esteem and sense of security
  • Affecting your performance and attendance at school
  • Causing stress and affecting your health
  • Affecting your professional reputation and career
  • Marginalising certain groups
  • Fuelling prejudice in areas such as race, religion and sexuality
  • Leading to suicidal thoughts
  • Affecting you for the rest of your life

  1. Bullies have been around as long as children. Today's bullies are expanding their role to keep up with the ever-changing requirements of the 21st Century's digital cyber world. So in essence, nothing has changed about bullies except the way in which they execute their dominance over their victims.dcitltd
